An exerpt from the Cleveland Plain Dealer: Cleveland Arts Prize announces 2008 winners by Karen Sanstrom - Plain Dealer Reporter Thursday May 1, 2008 Every year, the Cleveland Arts Prize highlights artists and leaders in the local culture whose work the judges believe brings pride to Northeast Ohio. Eleven people, including young classical music composer Dan Visconti, visual artist Hildur Asgeirsdottir Johnsson, writer Angela Johnson, writer-foodie Michael Ruhlman, chef Michael Symon and bookseller Richard Gildenmeister, will be honored Thursday, June 26, at the Cleveland Play House's Bolton Theatre. Visual art and literature are big winners for the Cleveland Arts Prize, which this year is packed with lots of household names. Five individuals will receive Martha Joseph Prizes for service to the arts. They include writer/foodie Michael Ruhlman, who has written several food-related books and has won a James Beard Award for magazine writing, and Chef Michael Symon, owner of the restaurants Lola and Lolita and a participant in the Food Network's "Iron Chef" series. Together, Bergman said, "the Michaels'" are doing their part to bring positive national attention to the city's food scene. 'This is the moment to honor them, while they're at the top of their game,' said Marcie Bergman, Director of the Prize.
