    Sandra Lee Forum

I have decided to add a Sandra Lee forum since she does have a considerable amount of threads. As you all know she isn't one of my favorites but that doesn't mean her fans aren't welcome. I would like to hear from them.

In my mind I picture women who are into decorating and having parties as her fan base. I would like to know if this is the case. Come forward Sandra Lee Fans, I know we don't have a lot of members who are fans now, but we want to meet you if you are..

She decorates very nicely. I'm not sure you could really have so many different plates and decorations in a normal household, but she does make everything look beautiful.

Usually it is just too much stuff for my taste. I don't think I ever used placecards for guests. She seems to be a big fan of those.

You know, a craft store has ENDLESS possibilities for those who like those "tablescapes". Also Office Depot/Office Max has colored printer paper in various thicknesses, and from gloss to matte, and all you need is a pair of scissors and some scotch tape, and you can go NUTS!

That kind of decorating can be really inexpensive. I'd stay away from Party Stores...even Toys 'R Us is over the top a bit in thier pricing. Using your printer, you can make nice place cards using "Microsoft Picture It! Publisher". I did that once for my girlfriend's little granddaughter's birthday party. Took me 10 minutes!

    Creativity CHEAP! That's my motto!

Yeah I think she would be a goldmine of idea's if you had one big party you wanted to go all out for, like a once in a lifetime thing. But as much "stuff" as you need for each and every one of these things she does you would have to rent a warehouse or open your own party rental store just to keep it all.

I'm very creative and love having parties. I just keep my decorating to more simple and elegant. You don't have to have things hanging from the chandelier or ceiling.

You are right, Doug, it doesn't have to cost much. I do a lot of interesting things with spending very little. I use Print Artist on my computer. Did the invitations for my party next week and people thought they were professionally done. I had bought beautiful gold shiny paper years ago and just used that. Very classy for very little.

I can't say that I have ever used any of her recipes, as this isn't the way I cook, but some of her ideas for decorating can be useful, others absurd.

I watch for some weird reason, but I wonder how many more times she can frost a store bought angel food cake with canned icing? Icing is so easy to make, why use that stuff?

With that said, if her show inspires someone to start cooking for themselves, that is a good thing, and hopefully they will progress to recipes less chemical intensive, even though I will take a short cut here or there, I prefer to cook from scratch.

I have picked up some ideas from her on things like cookie decorations or a nice topper for a cake. But I do not use a store bought cake. Her sugared fruit from an episode last week was very pretty. Those kind of little embellishments are usually the most I ever get from her shows. I prefer to make things myself as well. Too many preservatives in those processed foods she uses.

Sandra Lee is going to be on Ellen this week. Think it is Monday? Not sure.

That should be interesting because Ellen is a very healthy eater. I saw part of the commercial and looks like she was warming up pork and beans.

I'm sure it will be a very entertaining segment.

I once saw Aunt Sandy heat up a can of tomato soup and throw a handful of packaged croutons on top for one of her semi-homemade dishes. Seriously, if someone has to be told how to heat up soup, they probably can't work the remote on their TV either. I like her though. Sometimes she'll make an appetizer that I like, one that's easy and fun. I always enjoy her decorations, individually more than as groupings.

I'd never used bagged frozen fruit before watching her. One day she explained that fresh fruit shipped in from South America isn't all that tasty so why not use frozen fruit that was picked at the peak of freshness. After one too many winter-tasteless fresh strawberries, I tried frozen. They wouldn't work for everything but they make a great smoothie.
