Back to cooking-at-home basics

You can't afford to eat out every night or pick up takeout. Your food budget is stretched to the max.
That means you have no option but to cook and eat at home. It's really not that dismal a proposition, if you arm yourself with some good basic recipes, even some with a restaurant twist. You'll not only save money, but will probably save calories and eat more nutritiously.
"Returning to home cooking is not a big surprise with the economy the way it is today," says Jann Atkins, a Betty Crocker Kitchens spokeswoman who worked on the recently released second edition of "Betty Crocker Cooking Basics: Recipes and Tips to Cook With Confidence," (Wiley; $25.95).

I have a friend who eats out practically EVERY night. The one who's birthday was yesterday, so that was one of the times that I treated him to a dinner at the Texas BBQ / smokehouse restaurant where we dine every Wednesday evening.

He still buys food for the house, but he mostly eats out in the evening and during his lunch break at work. Only when the weather is bad, he's too tired or if he just doesn't feel like coming out, he'll stay home. But I imagine that it doesn't hurt him financially.

I'd like to try the Lemon Chicken Stir Fry though. Sounds good!

I agree!

My friend treats me to dinner most of the time, but I don't like the idea of not being able to pay all the time, so I stay home most of the time and cook something.
