Store Brands
I save money by buying store brands of most foods. A few items I prefer the name brand.. ketchup, for example, has to be Heinz. I like name brand sliced bread too. But Kroger natural peanut butter is the bomb. It actually tastes better than Smuckers, and of course it's cheaper. Same with low-sugar jelly.
I clip coupons, but often the store brand is cheaper than the name brand with a coupon. And I don't like the newest coupon trend, where you have to buy two of an item to use it!
My cleaners and toiletries are name brand though, and I do use coupons for them.

I think the private selection Ice Cream from Kroger is as good as some of the premium brands.

Most store brands are produced by well-known manufacturers. I know Libby, Nabisco, and many others make many store brands. That's why many are so good.

It depends on the store here. Some have good store brands like Harris-Teeter, Publix, etc, but some don't like Bi-lo. There are some things tho I have to have the name brand like mayo, ketchup, pickles, canned tomatoes, etc.

I agree Pluff, I have found that Food Lion, Kroger and Harris Teeter have great store brands, but we have an "upscale" (trying to be harris teeter, but failing) place called Lowes Foods, and I have been burned by some of their store brands, some good, some very low quality.

I do know that all of the canned vegetables in my store are manufactured by Del Monte.

I don't think the companies really want people to know that they produce the store brands. Could hurt their main line of product sales.

I've read that the breakfast cereal from Aldi is made by General Mills. Cannot confirm.

There are a few items I prefer getting the store brand over the name brand. There's a tangy mustard I buy at a local store, don't remember the name only that its an off brand, but I love it for my potato salad and on burgers.
