Are you watching Chopped? What pray tell is a sea bean?

Is it related to the green bean?

this is what I found, that actually fits to what we need an answer for
"Sea beans, also known as marsh samphire and glasswort, grow in the shallow waters along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. They have crisp, spiky cactus-like leaves and stems and a briny taste."

and it comes with a recipe When I goggled it there was all sorts of stuff that was called sea bean, and most of it was nothing to do with a actual bean but seeds form a multitude of plants that just happen to be floating in the oceans, even coconuts.

I thought it was like seaweed....we see a lot of these big, strange plants on the beaches along the Pacific. Would never think of eating them...they are kinda stinky!

No one seemed to like what they made with them. Maybe they just aren't good to begin with.

Seems to be one of those items that take a lot of prep work and a long time. I will say this show is getting better this year, no off the wall ingredients, they are actually getting stuff although unusual that you can do something with. When I read the preview on this it talked about a salty item, I had no idea what it was going to be but seems like this they needed to blanch then rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse to remove the heavy salt, then boil almost like spinach.

I don't know if I would go to a restaurant to pay for a plate of sea beans or something containing this sea product.
