Florence Keeping it Real on Food Network

Florence Keeping it Real on Food Network
By dixiedining
One of our favorite Food Network chefs is Tyler Florence. He has not experienced the same over-exposure that has plagued Emeril, Rachel Ray, and Paula Deen. We originally found Paula refreshing but her act has grown stale and ...

Tyler and Michael both have kept from the over hype, although I think they are sneaking into the retail world slowly without all the exposure. But I have noticed all though Tyler has done more shows, he some how has remained in the background. I enjoy both of these chefs and their shows.

They both have a very cool and unassuming way about them. They are two of my favorites, along with Ina.

Tyler has always appeared to be one of the steadiest customers at FN. Likable, *not* snooty or condescending, a great sense of humor ("I like BACONN!!"), etc. He's got looks that the ladies like (of course) and he's down-to-earth enough for the guys to like. Also, the current revision of ULTIMATE seems to have found its legs: one menu per episode with rich, REAL food- fried chicken, short ribs, vegetables and salads with a gourmet twist, and desserts- done in one kitchen, no traipsing all over the world to find one kind of chocolate or mushroom, etc. And I love it when he confronts the camera like it's the viewer ("just add a few anchovies...don't look at me like that, you know you like anchovies.") Some of his fan base made a point of commenting on his slight weight gain about a year ago, but that just made me like him more. He looks like he actually eats, and isn't just a washboard-abs, protein-shake drinking model (like so many of the HGTV carpenters, LOL).

Never cared very much for his other shows, HOW TO BOIL WATER and FOOD 911. (Anyway, Danny Boome's redoing the latter now.) He, Ina, and Michael Chiarello are probably my favorite hosts.

Ina is my absolute A+ #1. No one is or ever will be better than her! She's my super culinary, entertaining, and lifestyle idol.

As a resident of Northern California, I was exposed to Michael Chiarello on PBS long before FN. I don't know, I've just never warmed up to him. Although I'm not a fan of cutting every corner (read: Sandy), I find Michael's preparations to be a bit intimidating and unapproachable. I mean come on, who uses gray salt on a regular basis?

I loved the meatloaf commercial with Tyler. It was really funny.
